On September 17th, we are celebrating our 6th Anniversary of the Saddle Up for Roswell at Chestnut Ridge Equestrian Center. This is a wonderful horse show where the riders raise money for Roswell. The day benefits cancer research and patient care in Western New York at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.
The Chestnut Ridge Equestrian community is passionate about cancer – a cause that has touched so many in one way or another – and are proud to partner with Roswell Park to assist those who face this disease. Over the past 6 years, we have raised $65310.00. Last year alone we had over a hundred riders, raising $10310.00.
In order to continue this special event for a great cause, we are seeking both in-kind and monetary donations to sponsor the event. You would receive exposure on many levels – from hundreds of participants, ads in the news papers, TV spots, links with USEA and USDF.
For more information please contact Megan Gamin, Co Chairman of Saddle Up for Roswell, at (716) 772-7703 or pistolmeg@thegamins.com.
Thank for considering supporting Saddle Up for Roswell. Without you and your generosity, this day can not be a success. We hope you will be able to join us for our 6th anniversary celebration!
We are also looking for new or used items to be sold at the Tack sale at Saddle Up. Thank you again for all your support!
Abdullah has been recognized and celebrated in the internationally touring equestrian exhibit, The Literary Horse: When Legends Come to Life. A photo of Sue Williams and one of Abdullah's offspring, Charlie Brown, will be featured in the traveling exhibit, including the showcase at the Lexington Central Public Library in Lexington, Kentucky from September 1 to October 31, 2010, in celebration of the World Equestrian Games. Shot by renowned equine photographer and Literary Horse exhibit creator Vanessa Wright, the photo, titled "Remembrance," captures Sue and Charlie Brown riding through a field of wildflowers, paired with a quotation from a poem by the 18th century English author, Mary Darby Robinson. Sally Fox:
" Having come across a trunk of ribbons and coolers acquired at prestigious intenational competitions, Sue decided to put together a display of some of Abdullah's special treasures for the Saddle Up for Roswell Event at Chestnut Ridge. I was honored to be polishing the World Cup (keeper) trophy while Sue buffed up the name plate on Abdullah's Halter
She had already decied to donate that halter to an auction being held at WEG in KY for a Charity Auction that awards grants to talented riders on Trakehner Horses.
Sue confided 'I had misgivings about doing this and put a good reserve bid on it'. It proved to be unnecessary....the halter brought the highest bid of the entire auction bring in $5,500! I was astounded, thrilled and humbled by this event. Who would guess?
Who indeed? to own a piece of history is a special thrill that many can appreciate. I just wonder if the high bidder will actually use the halter-perhaps on an Olympic hopful, or just a very special friend. How about you?"
Thank you Sally
